Our mission is to advance the health and sustainability of our region’s watersheds, rivers, streams, and habitats — both in natural areas and urban neighborhoods.
We do this through science-based research, education, and inclusive engagement.
Our History
CWH was founded in 1996 by Dorothy Green to promote more efficient use of stormwater resources by providing leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to agencies and organizations working toward sound watershed planning and management.
Since then, CWH has built a strong track record of strengthening coordination around regional watershed planning, measuring and tracking progress toward healthier urban environments, and fostering a regional landscape ethic that reduces water use through native and regionally appropriate vegetation.
Today, CWH’s programs reflect the complexity of water resiliency in a changing climate. The organization continues to address diverse themes including urban stormwater capture and recharge, community capacity building for multi-benefit green infrastructure projects, water quality monitoring, and the implementation of sustainable landscapes.
